USA TODAY Travel Tips: Lodging in Flores, Guatemala
September 01, 2011
"The town of Flores is on a small island in Lake Peten Itza in the Guatemalan jungle, El Peten. A short causeway connects Flores to the mainland on one end and to Saint Elena, its sister city, on the opposite end. Both towns usually are lumped together and referred to as 'Flores.' They serve as the gateway to the Mayan ruins in Tikal National Park 45 minutes away. Accommodations in the Flores area range from woven hammocks under palm trees to hotels that offer the comforts of home in a jungle setting."
